BRITISH Speedway bosses have launched an exciting opportunity for aspiring youngsters aged 13-18 to get into the sport.
The British Speedway Promoters' Association have linked up with the Buxton Campus at Derby University where accomodation will be available for the camp between July 21-25.
The itinerary includes a trip to Belle Vue on the opening day of the camp, where the youngsters will get the opportunity to meet the riders and talk about the sport.
The following day will see former rider Graham Jones supervising an all-day workshop at the university, followed by a track day at Buxton on the Wednesday which, subject to fitness, will include 2000 world champion Mark Loram.
Then on the Thursday there will be lectures at the University on fitness for sport, sports psychology, sports massage and nutrition.
The camp will end with another track day on the Friday - once again at Buxton.
Chris Van Straaten, vice chairman of the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA), said: "This is a great opportunity for us to attract some newcomers into the sport.
"We need to try and make it more accessible and for the whole week, including most meals, we are only charging a minimal fee of £100 to cover insurance. The BSPA have funded the project as we are actively looking to encourage new younger riders into the sport."We see young people entering Motor Cross events in big numbers - now we want to show them what speedway is all about and how they can potentially earn a living out of it.
"We hope the SGB Summer Camp will prove to be a big success and we couldn't have made it possible without the help and co-operation of Derby University and their Buxton Campus, Richard and Jayne Moss at Buxton Speedway, Eazy Oils, Mark Loram and Graham Jones."
