TEENAGE sensation Tai Woffinden is the new Wolverhampton Speedway skipper.
Woffy, 19, is preparing for only his second full season as an Elite League rider after serving his British apprenticeship in the lower leagues.
And he will be a Grand Prix rider alongside Wolverhampton colleague Freddie Lindgren when the tapes rise on a new season of the World Championship next month.
He said: "Of course this is a massive honour for me but I have to say the role of captain in a speedway team can sometimes be overplayed.
"It's a team effort and Freddie will be on hand to help the rest of the guys just as much as me. I am captain in name only, but it is an honour for me.
"I tried to help my team-mates last year when they needed it. We had a great team spirit and we need the same this year to be successful."
Woffinden will lead his side for the first time when they face Coventry at Monmore Green next Monday, March 15, in an eagerly-awaited opening night Challenge (7.30).
